In Ocquier, a picturesque village in the Condroz region where rural traditions and local stone houses stand alongside medieval history, blacksmith Roger Poncin decided in 1943 to anchor his future in the shadow of a ninth-century church. At the end of the Second World War, reconstruction and rehabilitation led him to take his first steps in steelworking. Ateliers Roger Poncin S.A. focused on quality and respect for the customer and played an active role in a number of prestigious projects, including steelworks, nuclear power plants, steam-gas turbine power stations and various bridges. But Poncin also exports. Since the 1970s, Poncin S.A. has been asserting its ambitions. As a rapidly recognised partner for the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Egypt, Poncin N.V. is making its mark on these distant countries with Belgian metal.

In 2017, a new life began at the Ocquier site (formerly Ateliers Poncin). On 31 July 2017, at the height of summer, MATIERE SAS acquired Ateliers Roger Poncin & Cie s.a. in Ocquier, Belgium, a specialist in engineering structures and special metal frameworks for three generations (since 1943). The new company, Metallic Bridges of Belgium n.v., MBB to its friends, is a new strategic subsidiary of MATIERE SAS for the coming years. With its highly qualified, experienced staff and first-class facilities and equipment, MBB is ideally located in the heart of Europe, just a few kilometres from the port of Antwerp. A new Unibridge® line has been installed to participate in the production of large export projects. MBB has its own sales teams through its subsidiary Poncinlux and is present on the Belgian, Dutch, Luxembourg, French, German, Austrian and Swiss markets.
