High Strength Steel Design

  • 2 Parts: 3 & 5 Mar 2026
  • 10:00 - 12:00
  • Where: On-line Course

High strength steels (HSS) are increasingly being used in a range of applications in construction, particularly for heavy columns, transfer beams, trusses and bridge girders as their use can lead to substantial savings in structural weight and material costs.

This course will introduce engineers to the design of structures made from high strength steel. It will lead designers through the stages of specification, design and execution for structures made of steels with strengths from S460 up to S700, in accordance with European product, design and execution standards. Topics such as product availability and fatigue resistance will also be included. Practical guidance will be given on when and how the benefits of HSS can be exploited in design. Examples of building applications where the use of HSS enables weight, cost and carbon savings will be shown.

A PDF copy of the SCI publication P432 High strength steel design and execution guide will be given to all delegates.

PLEASE NOTE: Booking for this course will close 2 working days prior to the start date.
